February

Congratulations to all participants at the Try Melon Indoor Triathlon at the Muscatine YMCA on January 31 (Sunday). Thanks to all the volunteers. Brett Olson said there may be 2 added heats next year (starting an hour earlier) if they can get enough volunteers. I told him I would ask the Running Friends to help out if necessary. Well, what do you think? Are you willing to time a heat or two?

I hope to have a large group of Running Friends go with me to Des Moines on June 5th (Saturday) for Dam to Dam (Iowa's Distance Classic). They offer a 5k and 20k. We will get together sometime in May to discuss carpooling and hotel reservations. (Teri).

I am also hoping to get a large group of Running Friends to go back to Danville, IL. in August for the Howl at the Moon (8 hour run). A message from Joe Timmsen:

In case you are wondering, there will not be a “Swing into Spring” Duathlon this year. (See email below.)
FYI - There are two races that have increased registration cost as of March 1st – Pigman Sprint Triathlon and Bluff Creek Triathlon. Pigman Long Course Triathlon registration cost increases on March 6th. Hope that helps. Here are the web sites.

"Sorry to say we will not be putting it on as Jeff's timing business is really busy during that month. Our numbers were not enough to really support that race and my pool of volunteers has been maxed out with do putting on 4 races for the past 2 years."

Here is what Laurel wrote in her column about us : (Thanks, Laurel !)
—Muscatine group: As we continue through the winter weather, many runners are still outside pounding the pavement or snow. Among them is a very loyal group in Muscatine called the Running Friends. Their runs start at the Muscatine YMCA on Wednesdays at 5 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 8 a.m. The latter is their long run day.
If you live closer to Muscatine and want to get involved with them, make an effort just to show up. Trust me, the group is filled with amazing, super sweet people who enjoy running.

Lots of winter running going on!!

The FAB FIVE!!
