There will be no new routes for Saturday (February 26 ) and Sunday (February 27).

We will be using those two days as "catch up" days for anyone needing to complete a certain route. We will decide on the routes we run depending on who shows up and which routes are needed by the most people to complete. We may split up into groups to help as many runners "catch up" as possible. I will have a couple of maps of each route to pass out that day.

Let's have fun !
Keep Running ! Keep Smiling !

So it's been awhile since the blog has been updated!!  What have the "Friends" been doing?

TOMRV (Tour of the Mississippi River Valley). Two day, 200+ mile bike ride from Bettendorf to Dubuque and back. It rained both days but still had a great ride !

Tony Carl, Daphne Donald, Mario Garcia, Stacey Eberhard, and Andrew Carson met at the soccer complex, ran to St. Malachy's church, ran the Steeple Chase, and then ran back to the complex. (20+ miles) Wow, GREAT migration ! Thank you Paula Gillespie... you were much appreciated as their sag wagon ! Jackie Liebmann was the overall female finisher.  Great run, Jackie ! Hi Everybody! I know some of you, but I haven’t been to many races these past years. I’ve really enjoyed watching the Running Friends grow! It is truly amazing! My wife, Lori, and I read the updates and marvel at the races and runs y’all get in. My own “update” would be that I’ve hit the best stretch of running that I’ve had since 2003! I’ve slowly increased my mileage and am going pretty consistently again. Lori and I rotate who gets to go outside and who is on the treadmill (age of our kids and all). Enjoy your runs! Remember, KRKS goes on and on…

Terry Curry has suggested the first "migration" of 2010 :
Do we want to run to Grandview on July 3rd? And then run the 5K Freedom Run? Put it out there and see how many we get. - Terry

For the past 3 years we have met at the Musco parking lot before dawn and ran 12.5 miles to Grandview...
then we run the 5k Freedom Run. Who's game?

The Des Moines Marathon is Sunday, October 17th. (3 weeks after the QC marathon) Is anyone interested

A message (picture below) from Carlos Rondon :
A special "Hello" from Seoul, South Korea to my Running Friends in Muscatine, Iowa! I was thinking of all my Running Friends today.   I am sorry I was not able to join the group for the Green Bay marathon. But, hopefully I will join the group in another race. For now, I am  wearing my Running Friends shirt at the gym in the hotel until I get familiar with the running places. I have been running everyday early in the mornings before going to work. I hope to make contact with some runners’ group soon. Today, I ventured to the Hang River and I discover one of the most popular biking paths. I saw some few runners. So, I will be running there soon. I have to take a taxi or get the subway to access the running places. So far I am doing baby steps to get familiar with the basics. The cultural shock is a real factor to manage in a daily basis.

Betcha' thought I'd never update this blog, huh!!

Hello Running Friends,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Kandice Tjebkes May 11th
Danelle Much May 12th
John Appelbaum May 15th

Tonya and Tim Armstrong competed in the National Duathlon Championships last month :

Here is some info on the National Duathlon Championships:

The USAT National Duathlon Championships were held on April 24th and 25th in Richmond, Virginia. Over 1800 athletes competed in the two day event, which was the largest duathlon ever held in the U.S. The race consisted of a 5K run, 38K bike (3 loops), and another 5K run. Both 5K runs were the same course with hills and cobblestones! The bike course was an 8 mile loop that was ridden 3 times. The bike course had lots of turns, overpasses, bridges with slats (like Mississippi River bridge), wet roads, thorns, etc. It was a very technical bike course. This was the only qualifier for the World Short Course Duathlon Championship in Edinburgh, Scotland from September 3-5, 2010. The top 18 in each age group qualify automatically to go to the World Short Course Duathlon Championship, with unused spots on the team rolling down to 25th place. I placed 28th in the women’s 45-49 age group and Tim was 24th in the 50-54 age group. Tim still has a chance for a roll down slot to compete in the World Duathlon Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland. I hope he has a chance to compete there! Tim and I are also USAT Duathlon Commission co-chairs, so any ideas on how to promote duathlon and the number of duathlon races are appreciated! I also spoke at the first USAT Duathlon National Town Hall meeting where we reported what the commission is doing to the group of athletes competing at the National Championships. It was nice to meet other duathlon commission members that I had spoke to on the phone, but never met before. It was quite the trip!

Tonya

Congratulations Tonya and Tim !

Larry Sandhaus and Danelle Much ran in the Ice Age 50 last Saturday :

For your use...how could you not like a race with sleet and rain and hail and mud and wind? Larry

Looks like we missed out on all the fun ! Great run, Danelle and Larry !

May 9 (Sunday @ 7:30 a.m.) ----- Q. C. Distance Classic - 5k or 13.1 miles - Rock Island, IL

31st Dam to Dam (June 5, Des Moines) - Iowa's Distance Classic. There is no other race like it in the Midwest.  The 20 kilometer race now has over 6,500 entrants. Friends and relatives are encouraged to sign up now before the limit of 8,000 entrants is reached. The fee increases every Sunday this month. There is no registration after May 29 or at packet pickup on June 4.  Visit DamtoDam.com for more information. The web site will soon be updated featuring not just one but two Dam to Dam posters that will be available for you at packet pickup. Also the featured band for the "party until noon" race day will be announced. The largest 20 kilometer in the country will enjoy the best Dam to Dam shirt in race history, Brooks socks to all 20k entrants, a finisher medal and as always wonderful, plentiful food at packet pickup and the finish area. The Dam to Dam results booklet sent to all finishers is worth the wait, a prized possession.

The 5 kilometer at 9:45 a.m. and youth runs at 10:50 a.m. completes a perfect running experience for the entire family.
Thank you from Cal Murdock, Dam to Dam assistant race director.
