Hi Running Friends,

I gave you a couple of weeks to persuade (bribe) other runners to vote for your favorite spring marathon. We still had a tie between Cleveland and Green Bay. I voted and chose GREEN BAY because I fear we will lose some runners due to the travel distance to Cleveland (520 miles).

On May 17, 2009, Nancy Shell, Mario Garcia, Jackie Liebmann, and I ran the Green Bay Marathon. It was a flat and fast course. Beautiful scenery. I know we will have a wonderful time at Green Bay in May of 2010.

Thank you everyone !

Teri

GOOD LUCK IN THE NEW YORK MARATHON
LISA HUGHES & LEE HAMMERAND
November 1 - Sunday

A message from Lavene Payne:

Hey Teri,

Could you pass on a message to everyone for me? I was cleaning out the car this morning, and I found a strobe light probably from
the Wilton Migration. If anyone lost one, I would be happy to deliver it.

Thanks, Lavene

Kandice Tjebkes finished 12 out of 330 in her age group at the Des Moines Half Marathon on October 18. Her time was 1:45:29. Awesome run, Kandice !

Becky Zeck and Kristyn Manjoine ran the Nike Women's Marathon in California on Sunday, October 18.
Read Becky's message:

My take on Nike Women's Marathon, San Francisco:

It was a great experience, the hardest marathon I've ever done and the most fun. The weather was amazing in the low to mid sixties and breezy. We ran through Fisherman's Wharf, by the Golden Gate Bridge and the ocean-front views were incredible. We decided
to run the marathon together and not race it. It was the sixth marathon for both of us and the slowest as well. The chocolate mile and the twenty-something men wearing tuxs handing you a Tiffany's box at the end all helped to make this a great experience. Without a
doubt the most moving thing about this race was the Team In Training posters and people, it was a very emotional and moving day. There are memories from this trip that will stay with me for a long time.

Gotta run
Becky

Description
Hey everyone, come join us to walk/run to raise awareness and money to build a well in Africa so a village can have safe, clean WATER to drink. Water, something so simple... something we all take for granted in the US. Why WATER?*Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and disease, and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including WAR. Will you look beyond yourself and what's happening in your backyard and walk with us in this cause?

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I WAS THIRSTY and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in," -Matthew 25:35

This is a 4 mile walk/run along the river. Please take a look at the videos and pictures...there is power in numbers and we can do something about this...because if we don't, who will?

Labor Day Breakfast Bike Ride Meet @ 7:00 a.m. in the HNI Parking Lot
Ride to Illinois City Methodist Church for Breakfast - Cost is Donation

Tony Carl is planning to run (rather than bike) to the church for breakfast and back. He ran it last year and said it is about 8 miles from the HNI parking lot (corner of Oak and 2nd) to the church. We are meeting at 6:30 a.m.

Bike riders 7:00 a.m. --- Runners 6:30 a.m.

A note from Charles Potter concerning the Dubuque Half Marathon:

Hello all -- One of my favorite races is coming up on Labor Day. That's the Dubuque Half Marathon. Miles 7-10 are very hilly. Good food at the finish line. You can find an entry form by googling "Dubuque Half Marathon" or "Mississippi Valley Running Association." (The formal name is "Dubuque Benefit Classic.") There's also a 5K, which is boring and perfectly flat. The
registration fee for the half jumps from 30 to 40 dollars after September 1, so anyone who's interested better jump as well. -- Charles
-------
Joe and Dave Timmsen will be running the Superior Sawtooth 100 by Duluth, MN on September 11th. Good luck Timmsen brothers !
-------
A message sent from Vinton Cromer concerning the Governor's Run:

You all should know that the organizers of Governor's Cross Country Run have canceled their event for this November. A notice is being written and will be submitted to Barb for inclusion in the October newsletter.

New difficulties with the Scott County Park Board and the park ranger influenced their decision. Apparently, the park is best used by people driving through and not touching anything. It would be terrible if 500 high school kids actually ran across the dead weeds and grass. I shudder at the irreparable damage they would cause.

A new condition of approval of the race was that the park management could decide to cancel the event, at any time, right up to the actual start of the race. Park restrooms would also be locked portapotties delivered, and all food would have to be catered by a professional.
A new $400 use fee was also added.

As a result, to continue our scholarship fund, we'll have to dig into our reserve funds for next spring's awards.

Note that the race is looking into new venues for 2010.

-Paul

A message from Nancy Shell :
I am having a great time here in Denver. The Breast Cancer 3Day Walk is going GREAT! The weather is perfect--highs low to mid 80s and lows mid 50s. I have finished 40+ miles now. My running and conditioning have really paid off (thanks in part to my Running Friends). I have finished each day by 2pm after starting at 7am. I am feeling GREAT!! No blisters or feet problems at all. No sore leg muscles; just achy lower back from sleeping on the ground. No inflated mattress--definitely no room in my bag. Please tell everyone 'hi' for me. See you Wed evening or next Saturday morning.Love,Nancy ShellFor more information about the Breast Cancer 3-Day, or to register for the 2010 event, visit www.The3Day.org or call 800.996.3DAY today. The Breast Cancer 3-Day®.
