Betcha' thought I'd never update this blog, huh!!

Hello Running Friends,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Kandice Tjebkes May 11th
Danelle Much May 12th
John Appelbaum May 15th

Tonya and Tim Armstrong competed in the National Duathlon Championships last month :

Here is some info on the National Duathlon Championships:

The USAT National Duathlon Championships were held on April 24th and 25th in Richmond, Virginia. Over 1800 athletes competed in the two day event, which was the largest duathlon ever held in the U.S. The race consisted of a 5K run, 38K bike (3 loops), and another 5K run. Both 5K runs were the same course with hills and cobblestones! The bike course was an 8 mile loop that was ridden 3 times. The bike course had lots of turns, overpasses, bridges with slats (like Mississippi River bridge), wet roads, thorns, etc. It was a very technical bike course. This was the only qualifier for the World Short Course Duathlon Championship in Edinburgh, Scotland from September 3-5, 2010. The top 18 in each age group qualify automatically to go to the World Short Course Duathlon Championship, with unused spots on the team rolling down to 25th place. I placed 28th in the women’s 45-49 age group and Tim was 24th in the 50-54 age group. Tim still has a chance for a roll down slot to compete in the World Duathlon Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland. I hope he has a chance to compete there! Tim and I are also USAT Duathlon Commission co-chairs, so any ideas on how to promote duathlon and the number of duathlon races are appreciated! I also spoke at the first USAT Duathlon National Town Hall meeting where we reported what the commission is doing to the group of athletes competing at the National Championships. It was nice to meet other duathlon commission members that I had spoke to on the phone, but never met before. It was quite the trip!

Tonya

Congratulations Tonya and Tim !
